It's almost March 14, you know what that means?
It's Daylight Savings Time (DST). That means two things.
- We lose an hour of sleep.
- But even worse -- alarm clocks and hours stop working like we want them to.
This year, we put some time into thinking about DST so we can make it work right forever, rather than every six months getting a few emails from users whose alarms didn't go off.
We weren't able to get it into the app in time, but I wanted to show you a system we created uses a Chrome Browser and Web Bluetooth to make it connect.
If you want to try it out for the upcoming DST change, follow these steps:
- Update to the most recent Pavlok 3 app (released just this week!)
- You can download from the App/Play store. Find direct links here at: https://pavlok.com/apps
- Note: using older P3 app versions, or the Pavlok 2 app, will delete the DST info that set by the tool, so you would have to reconnect to the app after the DST change in order to correct the time.
- Update the firmware version 6.0.115 or later.
- Note that the web tool works only on a Windows or Mac OS laptop, a Chromebook, or an Android phone. You must use the Chrome browser, or a Chromium-based browser (like my favorite, Edge). Sorry iOS and other browser users: for now these are not supported.
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled in the OS settings. The web tool has no way to do that for you. Turn off your phone's bluetooth to make sure make sure that your Pavlok isn't connected to it.
- Go to our Pavlok Web Tool at its temporary location at https://nanonet.ca/pavlok-webtool/
- Connect to your Pavlok with the “Connect” button. You’ll need to chose your pavlok and then hit “pair” in the dialog box that comes up.
- Check that the DST info is correct for your region. If it is not, please report this to Pavlok so we can improve the tool.
- Press the “Set DST” button. Once this succeeds, the button should vanish.
- Voila! You should be ready for the time change.
